EXPERT // HAZARD
Full Route Report

The trek to Laguna de los Tres is one of the primary day activities in Los Glaciares National Park, providing a close-perspective view of the granite massif of Mount Fitz Roy (3,405m). The route follows an out-and-back trail through mixed forest and glaciated valleys, passing the Piedras Blancas viewpoint before the final ascent. The journey is defined by a significant transition from the low-lying valley floor to the high-alpine environment of the lagoon, which sits directly below the main peaks.

Wugong Mountain (Wugongshan)

EXPERT // HAZARD
Full Route Report

Wugong Mountain (Wugongshan) is a unique hiking destination in southeastern China. Unlike the granite spires of Huangshan or the forested stairs of Emei, Wugongshan is known for its vast, rolling alpine meadows situated at roughly 1,900 meters above sea level. For over 100,000 acres, the mountain ridges are covered in a sea of golden-green grass, offering sweeping panoramic views. The classic 2-to-3-day traverse across these grassy ridgelines is a major draw for backpackers and campers, culminating in the highest point, Golden Summit (Jinding, 1,918m). Weaving in and out of the clouds, hikers walk along the spine of the mountain range, passing remote mountain huts.

The HikeMetrics Hazard Scale is a proprietary 5-point classification system that evaluates hiking routes across five dimensions: physical demand, technical complexity, altitude exposure, weather risk, and rescue accessibility.

Unlike generic star ratings, the Hazard Scale is calibrated against altitude profiles, elevation gain per day, and logistical isolation factors — making it the most precise route classification system available.

high wind exposure: Strong winds are common in the Fitz Roy massif, particularly in the afternoon. Gusts can make the final ascent unstable in exposed conditions.
lower limb strain: The final descent is steep and rocky, which can strain knees and ankles on the return journey.
Route B // Hazard Verdict
Wugong Mountain (Wugongshan)
EXPERT // HAZARD
extreme weather exposure: The exposed grassy ridge offers little natural shelter from thunderstorms, high winds, or blistering sun.
