Built specifically to keep hikers on an open, exposed ridgeline descending into the abyss, the South Kaibab Trail plunges 4,780 feet (1,450m) from the South Rim down to the Colorado River. Because it strictly follows the spine of a ridge rather than diving into a side canyon, it offers spectacular, unimpeded 360-degree panoramic views of the entire Grand Canyon for almost the entire descent.
