Technical Summary

Beyond the Siq. While most visitors to Petra stick to the flat main valley, the true magic of the Rose City lies in its 'High Trails'.

The Crux

The Aerial Perspective and the Bedouin Tea Tents. The 'X-Factor' is the sense of scale. Sitting in a small Bedouin tent at the end of the Al-Khubtha trail, drinking hot sweet tea with sage while looking 300 feet straight down at the pink facade of the Treasury, is an iconic Petra viewpoint. At the Monastery, the sheer size of the monument—massive, one of the largest façades in Petra—coupled with the views across the Wadi Araba desert and the surrounding rift landscapes, makes you feel like you've reached the edge of the ancient world.
