Overview
Technical Summary
The Adolf Munkel Trail (Adolf-Munkel-Weg), also known as the 'Via delle Odle', is one of the most scenic low-to-mid altitude paths in the Dolomites, South Tyrol. Situated at the northern foot of the Odle/Geisler Group in the Val di Funes (Villnösstal), the trail traverses through stone-pine forests and across alpine meadows directly beneath the vertical 1,000-meter north faces of the Furchetta and Sass Rigais summits.
The Jagged Geisler Skyline. The defining characteristic of the Adolf Munkel Weg is the constant, looming presence of the Geisler/Odle peaks. Unlike high-plateau routes, this trail stays at the base of the massive vertical walls, providing a dramatic perspective on the sheer scale of the rock towers. The view from the Gschnagenhardt Alm towards the sawtooth ridges is widely considered one of the most iconic landscape perspectives in the entire Alpine chain.
Hazard Assessment
Though lower than the high peaks, the trail is susceptible to rapid thunderstorms that roll over the Odle range in the afternoon.
As a premier family-friendly route, the trailhead at Zans can become extremely congested, especially during August.

Technical Profile
Vertical Ascent Profile
An undulating, moderate circuit. Starting at the Zanser Alm (1,680m), the trail climbs steadily through the forest to reach the main Munkel path at approximately 2,000m. From there, it follows a gently rolling contour along the base of the peaks before descending back via the alpine huts.
Terrain Characteristics
Leisure Mountain Hiking (Class 2) — well-maintained forest and meadow paths with moderate elevation profile.
A measured physical load of 420m ascent requires steady pacing but remains accessible for active hikers.
