Route Questions

01

Can I do the Grey Glacier hike in one day?

Yes, but it is a long day. You must take the catamaran across Lago Pehoé to Paine Grande, hike to the viewpoints, and return in time for the last catamaran back to Pudeto.

02

Do I need technical equipment?

No technical gear is needed for the trail to the viewpoints. Trekking poles are highly recommended due to the strong winds, along with a heavy hardshell jacket.

03

Can I walk on the Grey Glacier?

Ice trekking requires booking a specific guided tour that departs from Refugio Grey. The standard trail only leads to observation points.

04

Is the trail difficult?

It is considered one of the easier segments of the W-Trek. It is mostly rolling terrain, with some rocky scrambling near the final viewpoints.

05

Do I need a reservation to hike this segment?

If you are only day-hiking and returning on the same day, you only need the park entrance ticket. If you plan to camp at Paine Grande or Refugio Grey, advance reservations are strictly required.
