Technical Summary

Voted Austria’s most beautiful place in a national poll in 2016, the Kaisertal is a legendary valley nestled between the Zahmer Kaiser and Wilder Kaiser massifs. For decades, it was the only inhabited valley in Austria with no road access.

The Crux

The Stairs and the Silence. The 'X-Factor' is the initial physical threshold. The stairs act as a gateway; by the time you reach the first viewpoint, you have 'earned' the valley. The absolute absence of passing cars creates a soundscape of only cowbells, wind, and waterfalls. Reaching the Vorderkaiserfeldenhütte allows you to look directly into the jagged 'verticality' of the Wilder Kaiser, a renowned climbing area.
